The Structures Section  is responsible for the design, inspection, and management of the state and local bridge systems programs.

Within the Design unit we develop plans as necessary for the rehabilitation or reconstruction of deficient bridges. Some of this work is done by our own staff and the balance is done by consultants under our oversight. The Bridge Management Unit develops recommendations for additions to the various Programs, using information from our PONTIS bridge management system. This unit also has four bridge inspection teams, which are charged with inspection of all state and local bridges and railroad structures on a two year cycle.
