The design of
the Bennington Bypass must comply with all State and Federal
regulations and design standards. Certain aspects of the
design have been improved over the years to decrease impacts
on the environment and to surrounding communities. An example
of this is at the interchange of the Bypass and Vermont Route
9, just east of downtown Bennington. The original interchange
design had a significant impact on the surrounding community.
However, by introducing a single-point diamond interchange
(which is much more compact by design), several nearby
residences that were originally slated for demolition, can now
remain.
