Mission:
The functions of this
unit are principally directed toward subsurface
explorations for transportation facilities and geotechnical recommendations for design and construction
of foundations for these facilities. Analyses are usually done in support of design and
construction functions, but may extend to the planning and maintenance areas. Subunits
include the Geology Unit, the Geotechnical Unit, and the Soils Laboratory.
