The Monument at Eldridge Cemetery in South Burlington to the War of 1812 Soldiers. Human remains from this project are currently at the UVM Consulting Archaeology Program lab for further study. Four sets of remains went to the US Army Central ID lab in Hawaii known as the Joint POW MIA Command for DNA analysis. The City of Burlington along with the Department for Historic Preservation and the UVM Consulting Archaeology Program have formed a committee to develop a management plan that may include further testing in some locations that are publicly owned to possibly determine boundaries of a burial ground, and apply for funding through the unmarked burial funds to excavate the two remaining burials on private property. Landowners are cooperative and supportive and the burials are currently easily accessible. |
