The Environmental Section is headed by the Environmental Service Engineer, who is responsible
to the Director of Program Development.
The Environmental Section i s comprised of two units-
Environmental Specialists and Resource Specialists.
The Section is responsible for assessing the presence of cultural and natural resources in project areas,
coordinating review and approval of VTrans projects by federal and state regulators, documenting environmental impacts
in accordance with the National Environmental Policy Act of
1969(NEPA), obtaining land use permits under Act 250 on projects
impacting greater than 10 acres and managing environmental work
completed by various consultants.

The Resource Specialists include
an Archeologist, an Historic
Preservationist, two Biologists,
and a Storm Water Management
Engineer.
The Resource team assesses impacts from transportation projects
on the natural and cultural environment. Resources can
include, but are not limited to: historic and cultural
resources, wetlands, fisheries,
water quality, wildlife, and threatened and endangered species.
The team documents research, completes field analyses, and
provides technical support for all transportation projects. The Environmental Specialists
serve as VTrans' contacts on environmental matters with all resource
regulatory agencies. The specialists work in collaboration with
the resource specialists and project managers, and negotiate
agreements with the resource agencies
toward securing required federal and state regulatory permits. |
